The annual Bachmann Open Day on July 13/14 revealed the latest new announcements from the Leicestershire based company. Newly announced for ‘OO’ is a model of the popular Peppercorn ‘A2’ 4-6-2 plus the latest additions to the rapidly growing Scenecraft building range. The photograph shows a hand-built model of the ‘A2’. Modern image ‘OO’ gauge was represented by the first shots of the forthcoming Class 150/1 and 150/2 second generation DMUs which have been in the pipeline for sometime. Bachmann also announced that ‘N’ gauge modellers will be treated to an all new model of the rebuilt ‘Royal Scot’ 4-6-0 with a similar specification to the recently released ‘N’ gauge Stanier ‘Jubilee’ 4-6-0. New wagon pre-production samples, including a JGA bogie aggregates hopper and an OCA open wagon, were also on display.
The full story from Bachmann’s Open Day will be in the September issue of Hornby Magazine, on sale August 8.

Model Show Wales is a new event this year and Hornby Magazine has joined forces with the organisers to sponsor the show. Model Show Wales takes place on August 9/10 at Venue Cymru on the promenade at Llandudno. This first event will feature a strong high-quality railway theme with working layouts from ‘N’ gauge through to ‘G’ scale, with working live steam 16mm narrow gauge exhibits. Hornby Magazine’s ‘OO’ gauge layout, Bay Street Shed, will be on show too with our trade stand. Steam-hauled miniature train rides will be operating along the promenade from the venue’s main entrance and demonstrations will include radio controlled cars and the British Model Flying Association and Rhyl Model Flying Club with static and electric powered flight displays. The event is shaping up well and as well as the exhibits there will be trade support and expect advice on hand. Doors open at 10am on August 9.

Model railways are a wonderful pastime. They can take us back to a time of fond memories or allow us to follow our imagination. For the new modeller, with a blank canvas and the simple desire to build a working model railway it can be a minefield of choice. Should you start afresh with digital control, should you build a branch line or a main line and, perhaps most importantly, where will the layout be housed?...
