www.scalescenes.com produces a substantial range of download kits. They are designed by John Wiffen and use card for the structure with paper cover layers. The finished buildings leave no unsightly white edges and create realistic structures which can be used to enhance a model railway.
We started with a small goods store in HM April/May 2007 and since then we’ve produced a range of buildings including a small boiler house and chimney (HM June/July 2007), signalbox (HM October 2007), low relief brick arches (HM February 2008) and station waiting rooms (HM May 2008).
Three of these buildings were used as the basis for a micro layout project, Barton, which featured in HM May, June and July 2008.
The latest free kit is included with each copy of the August 2008 issue of Hornby Magazine, on sale on July 11, which allows readers to build a station building which is complementary to the previously produced waiting rooms.

Model railways are a wonderful pastime. They can take us back to a time of fond memories or allow us to follow our imagination. For the new modeller, with a blank canvas and the simple desire to build a working model railway it can be a minefield of choice. Should you start afresh with digital control, should you build a branch line or a main line and, perhaps most importantly, where will the layout be housed?...
