Hornby Magazine

Britain's Fastest Growing Model Railway Magazine

Hornby Magazine was launched on 9th March 2007 (April 2007 edition) with the support of Hornby Hobbies who licence the name to Ian Allan Publishing.

Edited by Mike Wild, the magazine set out with a new approach and was aimed squarely at newcomers and returnees to the hobby, as well as those who were established in the hobby.

Its mix of inspirational and shows-you-how features, coupled to the best model railway photography and latest product reviews soon caught on as modellers everywhere discovered its fresh, new approach, talking in a language that everyone understood and not assuming everyone reading it was full of technical knowledge.

In four years the magazine has overtaken its rivals and is now a very close second in terms of sales to Railway Modeller, the long-established ‘grand daddy’ of model railway magazines.

Sales of the January 2011 issue reached 40,000 for the first time and this year Hornby Magazine will be ABC audited so that advertisers and readers can compare the magazine’s sales to others in the market.

There will always be at least 90 pages of editorial in Hornby Magazine, making it the best value read of all the model railway titles. It is regularly promoted at retail outlets and can be found at W H Smiths, Tesco, Sainsbury, Asda, Morrisons, Mills and many other good news outlets, including independant newsagents. Where it isn’t stocked, it can be ordered. Just ask!

Additionally, over 5,000 readers take advantage of our subscription service which includes a free loyalty card giving various discounts and access to a subscriber-only, on-line magazine full of offers and promotions. See opposite for the latest subscription offer.

In just four years Hornby Magazine has gone from selling 15,000 copies to 40,000 and is still growing, making it the model railway publishing success of the century!

You can also meet the team at selected shows around the country, including our very own show at Hartlepool in July. If you haven’t already done so, why not join in the fun?
