Final call for the GCR Model Event

The highly anticipated Great Central Railway (GCR) Model Event takes place this weekend, June 16-18, at the Loughborough-Leicester preserved railway.

The three-day event promises more than 70 layouts and 50 traders as well as an intensive timetable on the preserved double track main line. The exhibition is split between Loughborough, Quorn and Rothley. At Loughborough you can take a tour of the shed, visit the railways museum, see live steam 16mm models in action and browse Railwayana, book and second hand trade stalls. Quorn is the main site featuring more than 70 layouts and 40 traders as well as demonstrations, the opportunity to inspect full size railway vehicles and more. Rothley features model engineering displays together with its resident garden railway, John Witt’s Warton Road Gauge 3 layout (HM79) and more.

Refreshments are available at all stations with limited parking at Loughborough and Rothley. The main carpark, costing £5 per day, is located at Quorn station. Tickets are available on the day for £20 per person including all day travel and entry to all exhibition venues at Loughborough, Quorn and Rothley stations.

Hornby Hobbies, Hornby Magazine, Bachmann and Dapol will all be attending the show with the Hornby Magazine stand including its latest exhibition layout Grosvenor Square.

An intensive passenger timetable will be operated on the preserved double track main line with locomotives drawn from the GCR’s home fleet including up to three steam locomotives, a diesel and the resident Class 101 DMU.
