Rails of Sheffield has launched a new Rails Exclusive product range today with a model of the iconic LNER Dynamometer car for ‘OO’ gauge. This is to be the first of a series of models under the Rails Exclusive brand.
The new model is being developed exclusively for Rails by Rapido Trains and will full support from the National Railway Museum which owns the unique 1906 built LNER vehicle. The Dynamometer car achieved fame when it was hauled by Gresley ‘A4’ 4-6-2 4468 Mallard on its record breaking 126mph run on July 3 1938, but it was also used during the British Railways locomotive exchange trials in 1948 where it ventured away from its home LNER territory.
At the launch of the project Rails showed a 3D printed version of the vehicles showing current progress and it is due to be released either late 2017 or early 2018. It will be released in 1938 condition with number 23591 as it was during Mallard’s record run and in post-1946 condition with number 905202 initially with a price tag of £125 per vehicle.
The Dynamometer car is to be fully detailed inside and out with extensive under frame equipment modelling too. It will ride on turned metal wheels, feature NEM coupling pockets at both ends and interior light too. A decorated sample is anticipated by the time of the Warley National Model Railway Exhibition in November.
Rails has opened pre-orders for the Dynamometer car via its website today where models can be secured with a £50 deposit.
